The best time of the year to purchase a Quarter Midget Race Car is in the Fall and winter time. That is when the prices are low and cars are abundant. The worst time to look for a car is in the spring.

When you are looking at cars nationwide remember to take into consideration the shipping of the vehicle.
When it comes to purchasing Quarter Midget Race Cars it is much like buying a pick-up truck. You can get a Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge along with other manufacturers. They all are good brands and all of them will get the same job done. It’s just a matter of preference (and most people you talk to have an opinion about which brand is best).
The most popular cars at the HQMA track are Nervo, Lightnings, Prowlers, GT American, and Bullriders.
This comes in useful to know what types of cars are most common at the track. This helps with tech support from club members and accessibility to replacement parts at the track.
First of all not all cars are sized the same. Some cater to small children while others are more for larger children. When looking at a car be sure to ask the owner the age and size of the original driver.
Engines - For both novice classes the engine needed would be the Honda GX120. There are larger size engines for upper classes but the entry classes uses the Honda GX120.
When purchasing a new/used car there are some important things to look for from the latest rule changes.
These rule changes can mandate some costly updates to the vehicle. Quite often these updates usually haven’t been done yet and you will be required to do them before qualifying for your first race.
· Starting in 2009 all GX120 engines need to have a new/updated flywheel. This Flywheel costs around $100.00.
· Starting in 2008, all hydraulic braking systems need to have steel braided lines. Older units used the Nylon/plastic line with is no longer allowed in QMA. This update is around $80.00
· Starting in 2008, seat belts need to be replaced every 2 years or reconditioned every 2 years. Check the dates on the seat belt. Seatbelts cost around $60.00
· There is a mandated heel stop for the brake pedals on all Quarter Midgets Race Cars.
