I did not have a kid running this year due to his size but I was there every day. I did not like what i saw with the QMA Officials but I can tell you the HQMA members worked very hard to make sure that every one there had a good time. They work very hard to put on a grands. You guys did a great job. Jimmy Wall thank you for all your time and support even though little Jim is not so little anymore. We need to remember to vote for a new QMA board next election if we want unbiased support.

If a car is DQed at a grands event and say there are 75 cars in that class, then since they have a cheater motor and carb. then they should end up 75th instead of 9th at the GRANDS and not end up with the big trophy. No awards should be given until the race is final. ANYWAY, HQMA did a great job hosting the GRANDS.

THE OLE' 160 CARB ON A 120 MOTOR TRICK...YES WE'VE SEEN THAT CAR RUN AT HQMA IN THE PAST AND IT BLEW THE FIELD AWAY...THAT CAR QUALIFIED FASTEST AT THE STATES RACE, AND AGAIN AT THE 4TH OF JULY RACE...EVEN AFTER HITTING THE WALL IN THE LAST LAP IT STILL BEAT EVERY ONES TIME. I DON'T KNOW HIS NAME BUT ONE OF THE HANDLERS WAS BOASTING ABOUT THE MOTOR EVERY TIME IT CAME OFF THE TRACK...."HOW ABOUT THAT FOR A MOTOR!!!! BTW... IT WAS ALSO MISSING THE RESISTOR IN THE SPARK PLUG BOOT SO IN THEORY THAT WOULD HELP THE SPARK OTHERWISE IT WOULDN'T BE IN THE RULE BOOK WHICH COMBINED WITH THE 160 CARB WOULD ALSO CERTAINLY ADD TO THE MOTORS POWER. FEEL BAD FOR THE KID...IT'S NOT HIS FAULT HE HAS BONEHEAD HANDLERS

Had a great time at the grands. Hope you have another one there soon. Ashame about the kids that got DQed at tech. Shame on their handlers. It's one thing to get canned for a piece a little out of spec. But to have a 160 carb on a 120 and another having some port work on a head is just plain wrong.

Here is my grands story . We had kids from 4 states at our house swimming ,fishing and riding 4 wheelers getting muddy just boys being boys these kids had a ball . I met new friend and saw old friend these people will always be in our hearts . Mr. Bishop grilled for so many people and was it great . Friend and strangers worked on each others cars to help the kids. This is what the grands is about . If you came only to get a big trophy then you missed the boat. My son didnt get that big trophy this year we got the wooden prize. We do have 2 of those huge A-Main trophies from the grands . They are out in the garage getting dust on them . The little wooden plaque is hanging inside on the wall and the memories and in our hearts forevere thanks Terry

Yes Awesome show and a BIG THANKS to the whole gang at HQMA & JIMMY WALL...Jimmy you are the most dedicated guy I have ever met...pushing a broom, doing what ever it takes, Jimmy HQMA is a great facility because of your leadership and guidance. QMA officials were definitely a little off base...it was obvious to all that when some where in the pits the line-up would take forever...some parents were even caught by others giving their kids the "kill-it" sign when the "one-to-go" was finally thrown causing the caution to come back out...not cool at all. Not sure how many families are aware but one kid was DQ off the scales for not having his frame & valve (motor) cover painted, THE HANDLERS MESSED UP. Then QMA realized that there were 15-20 other cars that had the same exact problem...the handler did not properly check and their cars did not have the motors / frames painted. QMA WENT TO THOSE TRAILERS AND PAINTED MOTORS AND frameS AT THEIR TRAILERS...THAT IS WAY AROUND THE RULES AND WHAT WAS EXPLAINED IN THE HANDLER MEETING. MANY OF US WERE RACING AGAINST CARS THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THERE...I WOULD LIKE QMA TO PUBLISH A LIST OF ALL THE CARS THAT HAD THEIR MOTORS AND frameS PAINTED AFTER THE FACT IN THE PRIVACY OF THEIR TRAILERS....NOT A GOOD DEAL AT ALL, ESPECIALLY FOR THE ONE KID WHO WAS DQ...

I think HQMA did a great Job. The plaques were fine. The movie that was watched by a member of HQMA before it was shown should not have been shown, nor was it appropriate for children. Someone did watch it before hand ???? correct???I gave my own kid water myself. The QMA officials were sorry and bias toward some chassis's. The QMA national tech cheated alot of kids out of their rightful place by being bias to some. I have never heard of duct tape being legal to put a bumper on with. So this sets a whole new presidence for bumpers???Right??? Anyway good job to HQMA!!!!!

HQMA/Mr.Walls, You are amazing! What you accomplished for the: 2009 EASTERN GRANDS was remarkable! From my children's novice race to the last BLT that I made. The whole week was outstanding. An awesome memory for my family's lifetime!! We enjoyed it down to the last day and even then, our children did not want to leave. You gave the Ultimate for our children's racing career. Them getting to witness and participate in a large family of racers pulling together for the benefit of children! Thanks for THE 2009 EASTERN GRANDS ! We look forward to racing with you!! Nelson,
I talked with you on the phone a few days ago about the Downs show, and then me and a couple of friends drove to Huntsville Saturday and observed from about noon until about 3:00 PM. I thought the show was outstanding and am greatly impressed with the facility. My only complaint was that I thought that the Flag Man was lacking in confidence and tended to run to many unnecessary caution laps, and he tried to tell them to bunch up when they were already bunched up. I think that that effort tended to be confusing to the drivers. USAC is probably looking for him, as they always do the same thing at ORP.
Congratulations on a job well done. We’ll try and get back for a regular show later.
